Two more medal chances for Paralympic swimmer Anthony Stephens
SWIMMER Anthony Stephens will be going for Gold once again today and tomorrow at the Paralympics after coming agonisingly close to two medals in the 50m and 200m freestyle events this week.
The 26-year-old double leg amputee, who lives in Highbridge, came fourth in both finals in his third Paralympic Games.
After the races, Stephens thanked everyone for all the support he has received on social networking site Twitter.
He tweeted: “Thanks for everyone’s support today guys! Crowd was amazing, never experienced anything like it.
“I gave it all I had and couldn't have done anymore.”
In the 50m freestyle last Thursday, Stephens finished in a time of 35.74 seconds while in the 200m freestyle he swam a time of two minutes and 49 seconds – both events won by Brazilian Daniel Dias.
Stephens will compete today (Thursday) in the Men’s 50m backstroke and again tomorrow (Friday) in the Men’s 50m butterfly.
