Somerset Shrubbery cricket league round up
FOR the majority of our sides the Somerset Shrubbery cricket league came to its conclusion this weekend.
In Division Two, Wedmore's torrid season came to an end as they fell to a 38 run defeat to North Newton. S Harris top scored for Wedmore with 25 but they were unable to chase down 159 to win as were bowled out for 120. With the ball I Harris (3-24) and M Wall (3-15) starred.
Huntspill and District also fell short as they chased down Westlands 2nds total of 233. T Bennett (4-60) and S Lillycrop (4-33) took four wickets apiece to help restrict the visitors but with the bat Lillycrop (36), D Tippetts (33), B Durkin (27) and Bennett (26 not out) all made starts but were unable to see their team over the winning line.
In Division 8NE, Mark 2nds had their match with Evercreech cancelled after the visitors could not raise a team.
Wedmore 2nds lost by seven wickets against Peasedown St John 1sts. J Tonkin starred with the bat for Wedmore as he hit 54 but the team could only muster a below par 108.
In reply, C Major (1-19), Tonkin (1-2) and P Curtin (1-5) all claimed a wicket but the home side knocked the runs off comfortably.
In Division 9NW, Huntspill and District 2nds conceded their match at Wedmore 'A'.
