North Petherton 2nds 152 beat Burnham 2nds 68 by 84 runs
PETHERTON kept their hopes of promotion well and truly alive with a comprehensive victory over Burnham.
Skipper Spencer Frost lost the toss and was asked to bat. Jones was bowled for five and K Williams (seven) soon followed. Brothers Ben and Russell Williams soon began to pick up the run rate until B Williams (23) ran himself out.
Joe Jervis (27) supported well before R Williams fell trying to force a single only to be well stumped.
Derbidge and Thurston kept the run accumulation going with 16 and 20 respectively but the tail didn't wag and the team fell for 152 all out.
In reply, Scott Briffet and Tom Smith bowled an exceptional opening spell, with Briffet (2-16) picking up the wickets of Martin (2) and Gaylard (11). First change bowler Keith Williams (2-8) kept the batsmen pinned down and it was a real team effort as all the bowlers chipped in including left arm spinner Paul Thurston (2-7) backed up with some spectactular fielding and a superb catch from R Williams to skittle Burnham for 68.
Petherton need 17 points to pip Chilton Polden to promotion from their re-arranged match with Burnham and a 30 point win will see them take the league title from Middlezoy.
