Burnham United 8, Glastonbury Town 0
CALLS for improvement from Burnham United manager Ashley Plant were answered on Saturday as the team thrashed Glastonbury Town 8-0.
The opening 10 minutes where pretty even with Glastonbury playing plenty of passing football out from the back, despite keeping possession relatively well they failed to open up a determined United side who had been told in no uncertain term to keep things tight.
Burnham where very organised and when in possession attacked in numbers, they took the lead on 11 minutes when Ell Lamb whipped in a corner for his younger brother Ed to powerfully head home.
This spurred United on and by the half hour mark they deservedly found themselves leading 4-0, Ed Lamb doubled his tally, Hirons continued his scoring streak with his third of a season and Whitfield finished well after a number of penetrating runs down the wing.
Burnham’s superiority continued to tell as they kept putting pressure on the Glastonbury defence who continued to try and play the ball out from the back. Burnham bagged another two goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half, Walford with a brilliant glancing header into the top corner and Scott with his second in two games getting his reward for his selfless display.
The second half was never going to be as one sided as the first but Burnham continued to play well with the right attitude and desire and Glastonbury rarely got past United’s resolute defence.
Burnham took the opportunity to rest some players and further goals from Walford and Smith gave United a very convincing victory, this pick of the goals coming from Walford as he picked the ball up in defence made a charging run and unleashed a rocket into the corner of the net.
