THE Somerset Rebels return to Premier League action on Friday night when they welcome the Plymouth Devils to the Oaktree Arena, the result of which could confirm their place in the end-of-season championship-deciding play-offs.
However, despite their relatively lowly position in the Premier League, Plymouth have a number of riders who excel at the Oaktree Arena and the home side know nothing is a foregone conclusion.
Among them are ex-Rebels duo Cory Gathercole and James Holder, the pair spending three and two seasons, respectively, in Somerset colours.
Debbie Hancock, Rebels promoter, said: “Although Plymouth have yet to pick up a point on their travels in the Premier League this year, they probably feel Friday night is the time for them to break that duck, especially with two ex-Rebels in their line up to go alongside the likes of Barker and Fisher.
“But, in saying that, we have the incentive of possibly securing our play-off spot come Friday night and I am sure we’ll be able to see off what I am sure will be a determined Devils side.”
The Rebels will be without two of their septet, with Alex Davies being called-up by the Australians to be a member of their side that will contest the U-21 World Cup Final that is being staged in Poland on Saturday.
Jesper Monberg will be riding in the second leg of the Danish National Championship, with Somerset electing to use rider replacement in place of Davies and have secured the services of Leicester’s Lasse Bjerre as guest replacement for Monberg.
