Ingram hits last-gasp leveller for Taunton Town
1:25pm Wednesday 22nd August 2012 in Sport
NEW skipper Simon Ingram led by example on Tuesday night as Taunton Town picked-up their first point of the season against Poole Town in the Evo-Stik Southern South West 1, writes James Wright.
With just three minutes remaining the captain curled home a sublime free-kick to rescue a game which appeared to be slipping away with his charges failing to fashion any notable chances.
The South Coast side put the home side under considerable pressure straight from the kick-off.
Keeper Connor Sidley-Adams pulled off one early save, but was helpless shortly afterwards when Steve Devlin found the bottom left-hand corner with a rasping drive from almost 30 yards.
Poole dominated proceedings and Taunton lone target man Raith Plant was fighting a losing battle against the visiting centre-halves, while attacking wide men Lee Smyth and Rodney Marsh were quiet all night.
The visitors appeared to be coasting to victory until they conceded an unnecessary free-kick 20 yards out in the 87th minute.
Marsh stepped over the ball, and Ingram curled a delicious shot into the top right-hand corner to claim a share of the spoils.
