Three out of three for Berrow

Three out of three for Berrow Three out of three for Berrow

Somerset Errea County League Premier

Berrow 1, Odd Down 0

BERROW ground out another three points on Saturday (August 18) at home to a vastly improved Odd Down side to continue their faultless start to the season.

In a dour first half, Berrow had Chris Warner to thank for a goalless first half as the visitors forced the home ‘keeper into three fine stops.

In reply, Berrow offered very little going forward and were too often wasteful in possession, however the back four were once again on fine form.

Even the loss of the impressive Ben Robertson to a hamstring strain failed to upset the discipline of the back line with Harry Penfold taking over and picking up where Robertson had left off.

The second half saw an improvement from the hosts and they were gifted the lead when the otherwise faultless Odd Down sweeper got his nod back to the keeper all wrong and the alert Connor Watts followed in to force the ball over the line.

Odd Down pressed but were unable to break down Berrow’s rear guard with Pete John, Penfold, Tom Marshfield and James Gass once again outstanding.

New recruit Ian Bellinger was introduced and showed great promise causing all kinds of problems for the visitors with his direct running and quick feet.

Manager Ryan McErlain said: “Overall, I’m happy with our start and look forward to a derby day next week with Bridgwater Town Reserves, who will undoubtedly give provide us with another tough test.”

Berrow: Warner, Gass, Robertson (Penfold), Marshfield, John, Hartnup, Read (Catlow), McErlain, Watts, Morgan, Harper (Bellinger).
