A BUDDING tennis star from Wedmore has progressed to the third round of a national junior tournament.

Finn Bass is hoping to go all the way in the 12U AEGON British Junior National Championships after defeating Aidan Mchugh 6-1, 6-2 at the West Hants Club in Bournemouth.

The competition is the most prestigious domestic junior tournament and attracts many of Britain’s best junior players.

Speaking after his victory, the 12-year-old said: “I’m pleased I won – I wanted to get my first match out of the way, try out some new things. I was a bit tight at first and got broken in the first game but then I relaxed and played my own game.”

Top seed Bass will play Edward Pudney from Essex today (August 21).
