Frome 208-9 lost to Wembdon 210-7 by 3 wkts
WEMBDON came out on top against Frome in a match which ebbed and flowed and saw them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat to move second in the league.
Wembdon bowled first and started well with Brendan Pope bowling seven consecutive maidens and snicking opener Leonard behind. Scoring was slow and, after 20 overs, Frome reached 55-2 with regular wickets falling thanks to Bingham (3-30) and the spin of Gower to restrict Frome to 127-6 from 40 overs. Late order hitting turned the innings on its head as Frome finished on 208-9.
In reply, Gower (15) got Wembdon off to the best possible start cutting the first ball for four but he fell to a great slip catch in the seventh over. G. Lowe and Joshi consolidated until the 17th over before Lowe was the man to go, replaced by Sam Puddy (27) and, at the half-way stage, Wembdon were 59-2 with wickets in hand.
Puddy shared a stand of 44 with Joshi (27) before both were dismissed looking to increase the run rate.
Pope (43) turned the tide and, for the first time in the innings, Wembdon held the momentum but Wembdon still required 105 to win off 60 balls. Frome became complacent and gave Goss and Bingham confidence.
Bingham (33) struck four 6s and, from nowhere, Wembdon required 24 from 20 balls. Goss (31) played a classy knock and Bingham brought up the win with a 6 with 12 balls to spare.
On Saturday, Wembdon entertain Winscombe (12.30pm start).
