Tiverton swimmer Libby Mitchell won a gold medal at the Amateur Swimming Association's National Youth Championships at the Pons Forge international sports centre in Sheffield this month.

Libby, 18, took the 200 metres butterfly title with a personal best time of 2mins 13.19secs.

At the same championships she also won the silver medal in the 100 metres butterfly in 1min 0.65s - again a personal best.

Libby trains at the Swansea Performance Centre and is coached by ex-Tiverton High School PE teacher Stuart McNally who was also head coach at Tiverton Swimming Club.

When not training for up to 24 hours a week Libby studies Sports Science at Swansea University.

Earlier in the year she reached the final of the 200 metres butterfly in the Olympic trials at the London Aquatic centre in the heart of the Olympic village.

Libby started swimming for Tiverton Swimming Club at the age of seven and her goal is to be a member of the Team GB swimming squad at the Commonwealth games to be held in Glasgow in 2014.
