FENCING: Wellington Swords are looking sharp

Wellington Swords fencers have enjoyed plenty of success at recent competitions.

Four fencers travelled to Kidderminster to enter the Bill Hoskyns Open Epee Competition which is held in memory of the last British fencer to win an Olympic medal.

Hoskyns took silver in the men’s team epee at the 1960 Rome Olympics and silver in the men’s individual at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Jess Gundry won the Under-17 cadets category, coming third in the women’s open competition.

Toni Denham came second and Sophie Townsend finished 14th in the women's open. In the mens open Robert Flatt came 15th.

Meanwhile in the Devon age group competition two Wellington fencers won their categories.

Henry Savage won the boys’ Under-15 foil while his sister Olivia took the girls Under-11 foil.
