Somerset cricket league call-offs in second damp weekend

THE majority of our sides’ matches fell foul of the weather for a second weekend running but here is a brief round-up of the cancellations and fixtures this Saturday.

In the WEPL Premier 2, Ashcott and Shapwick’s match with Weston-super-Mare was a washout and they travel to Thornbury this Saturday.

Wembdon had their WEPL Somerset Division match with Bishops Lydeard cancelled but will hope for play this weekend at home to Butleigh.

In Division 2 of the Somerset Shrubbery league, North Newton’s trip to North Curry was a washout. Their next hope of a match is a home clash against Wincanton.

Division 3 side Bridgwater A look forward to a home fixture with Long Sutton after hopes of play were dashed by rain against South Petherton.

Wembdon 2nds and Kilve were both left twiddling their thumbs in Division 4 after a second week of no play against Weston-super-Mare 3rds and North Perrott 2nds, respectively.

Wembdon travel to Fitzhead this weekend and Kilve are also on the road in their match with Curry Rivel.

In Division 6, Bridgwater Sports’ home match with Chard A was cancelled. They travel to Butleigh this weekend.

Four teams in Division 8S were called off, including Chilton Polden versus Wembdon Wyverns.

Middlezoy 2nds did, however, manage to play as they suffered a hefty 113-run defeat to Watchet 2nds.

M. Modley was the pick of the Middlezoy attack with 3-53 as Watchet piled up 224-6, but the visitors stumbled to 111 all out with only Nathan Peppard resisting with an unbeaten 68.

Spaxton also played and beat North Petherton 2nds. Spaxton hit 178-6 with K. Bellinger (79) top scoring and P. Thurston picking up 2-28 for Pethy.

In reply, five wickets from D. Pople (5-11) routed Pethy for 94 with N. Revans top scoring on 20.

This weekend, Wembdon Wyverns host All Saints, Spaxton welcome Watchet, Middlezoy 2nds are at home to Taunton Deane Crusaders and Chilton Polden travel to North Petherton 2nds.

In Division 9NW, Wembdon Academy travel to Belvedere A and Chilton Polden 2nds welcome Uphill Castle Crusaders.
