MIDDLEZOY managed to get a game on and skipper Nathan Barnard put North Petherton in to bat on a wet wicket after winning the toss.

Tom Williams adapted to the soft wicket and slow outfield to make a well-constructed 59 and got the visitors off to a good start, sitting on 103-2 after 20 overs. A notoriously small boundary was then peppered by the inform Owen Irish who hit a blazing 94 from 51 deliveries.

Irish took a particular liking to the bowling of Nathan Barnard (5-77) who was the pick of the home side’s bowling and skipper Tim Gibbs (31) and Lloyd Irish (23) also made notable contributions to North Petherton’s largest total of the season.

In Middlezoy’s reply, the consistent Ben Warren was removed by talisman Lewis Knight in the second over without scoring and replaced by the hard hitting G. Musgrave. His timing and power had the visitors under pressure, before Tim Gibbs caught him from the bowling of Lewis Knight for a quickfire 41.

From here, the game as a spectacle was dampened by the negative approach of Marc Troman (82 not out) and Barnard (44 not out). Despite batting well and never looking troubled, it would be fair to say the visitors’ total never looked under threat.

l Petherton travel to Purnells this coming Saturday while Middlezoy visit Temple Cloud.
