WILL Carrick-Smith in action
Taunton Titans coach Tony Yapp has continued his summer recruitment spree by naming Exeter Chiefs Academy lock Will Carrick-Smith in his squad.
The 20-year-old stands 6ft 10ins tall, weighs 18st 3lbs, and is a regular in the England youth set-up. Yapp told the Gazette: “I noticed Will when coaching Blundell’s School team a few years ago. He was a big unit then and even bigger now.
“Will is an outstanding prospect for the ‘Big League’ and I’m delighted Chiefs have agreed he can play with the Titans this season.
“Will is going to make a big impact on the side. Working alongside fellow Chiefs and England International Academy star Joel Conlon, he will add real pace to our back five.
“I’ve a few more exciting announcements that I hope to be making soon, but at this early stage of the pre season I’m pleased with how the squad is shaping.”
Amid the news of new players arriving at Taunton Rugby Club, officials have been busy behind the scenes on a major restructuring of the club’s administrative and executive approach to the ‘business of business’.
Titans’ promotions man Colin Bentley said: “The club has conducted a series of high level meetings over the past six months.
“We field 18 teams at Hyde Park and have a huge responsibility to our membership and players. Fostering and developing a thriving social section alongside a senior Titans team playing National League rugby is a complex cocktail.
“The outcome of our summit meetings has produced a new structure involving the introduction of a limited company to guide and develop the business affairs of Hyde Park and a second limited company to do likewise with the Titans.
“The club is currently seeking to source and recruit, as honorary directors, experienced business professionals to help guide and grow our club to the next level of development.”
