WEDMORE are still searching for their first win of the season in Division 2 of the Somerset Shrubbery cricket league as rain ruined their match with North Newton as the game was evenly poised.

North Newton had posted 122-8 after M Boley (3-43) and two wickets apiece for M Lazenby (2-31) and S Harris (2-8) helped to restrict well.

In reply, Wedmore's Harris (25) and C Mogg (20) both played gritty knocks but the team lost regular wickets to leave themselves at 90-7 when rain came.

In Division 5, Mark suffered a narrow one-wicket defeat against Broadway and Horton. G Lloyd top scored with an unbeaten 41 in a reduced overs match as Mark scored 114-5.

In reply, the match was on a knife-edge but the visitors clawed their way over the line despite D Worthington (5-24) and S Blake (3-33) best efforts.

Mark 2nds were deducted 30 points after they had to cancel their match away to Evercreech.

Also in Division 8NE, Wedmore 2nds were saved by the rain as Peasedown St John were 100-1 chasing 144 for victory when the weather forced an end to the match.

R Banwell top scored with an unbeaten 28 in Wedmore's total of 143.

In Division 9NW, Huntspill and District 2nds claimed the bragging rights over Wedmore 'A'.

Four wickets apiece for T Bennett (4-16) and M Childs (4-20) helped to rout Wedmore for 70 and despite early wickets in reply from R Gamlin (2-35) and O Taylor (2-20) a quickfire 25 from S Eley ensured the win.

East Huntspill 2nds claimed a narrow eight run win over Wembdon Academy.
