Somerset Shrubbery cricket league round up

NORTH Petherton were denied a win by the weather in Division 1 of the Somerset Shrubbery cricket league on Saturday.
Petherton posted a commanding 212-8 thanks to T. Williams (55) and D. Tottle (59) and, in reply, had reduced Ashbrittle to 90-8 before the rain came thanks to T. Gibbs, who produced a stunning spell of 5-21.
Middlezoy won at Watchet after five wickets from P. Tilling (5-21) helped to skittle the home side for 105 chasing 168-9. Marc Troman top scored for the visitors with a classy unbeaten 79.
In Division 2, North Newton’s match with Wedmore was evenly poised when rain came.
North Newton hit 122-8 with C. Barrington top scoring with 39 and, in reply, Wedmore were 90-7 with A. White (3-34) the pick of the bowlers.
Division 3 side Bridgwater A took a hefty eightwicket defeat on the chin in their match with Street.
S. Boobyer top scored with 52 as Bridgy hit 123 but Street chased down the runs comfortably after 34 overs.
Kilve lost by six wickets to North Perrott 2nds in Division 4. E. Martin hit a solid 70 not out as Kilve posted a challenging 212 but they were unable to tie the North Perrott batsmen down and they chased down the total with two overs remaining.
Wembdon 2nds were indebted to 90 from opener G. Lowe as they hit a match-winning 172. Four wickets for Russ Pigden (4-6) helped to wrap the win up for the visitors and bowl Curry Rivel out for 111.
Bridgwater Sports were routed for an embarrassingly low score of 19 in their match with Taunton Deane Cavaliers. The home side knocked the total off for the loss of two wickets.
Middlezoy 2nds continue their assault of the Division 8S table with a 24-run win over nearest rivals Chilton Polden. T. Nind (52) and A. Campbell (47) set to foundations for their total of 217-8, despite three wickets for S. Pinder.
Then, in reply, N. Dobbs (58) and Pinder (59) both hit half-centuries but G. Purchase (3-44), Campbell (3-48) and P. Gray (4-36) did the damage to bowl the visitors out for 193.
Spaxton’s match with South Petherton was rainaffected.
Spaxton hit 162-3 with B. Rich (40) and D.
Pople (39) striking the ball well and South Petherton were 86-6 in reply when the weather intervened.
Wembdon Wyverns claimed a convincing win over Taunton Deane Crusaders after Kieran Cosens blasted 89 in Wembdon’s 168-9. Four wickets from P. Cook in reply helped them skittle Taunton for 94.
In Division 9NW, Chilton Polden 2nds had to settle with a rain affected draw with Banwell and Churchill 2nds. The visitors reached 90 and Chilton were 35-2 in reply when rain forced the players from the field.
