FOOTBALL: Robinson's arrival sparks player interest at Taunton

NEW Taunton Town manager Leigh Robinson this week said “plenty of new players” have shown an interest in joining the club.

Robinson has also met with most of last season's playing squad and says he is enjoying life in the Wordsworth Drive hot seat following his appointment earlier this month.

Robinson said: “I continue to be impressed with the direction the chairman and board are taking the club.

“I had a meeting with perhaps two thirds of the squad last week which was positive.

“As always at this level and at this time of year, very few players are 100% certain as to what they are doing next year as some naturally want to try their luck at a higher level which, as a club, we would always encourage.”

Robinson is keen to retain the majority of last season's squad but acknowledged some may depart.

He added: “It's too early to say whether my job will be a case of adding three or four players to the existing squad or whether it will be a total re-build of the side.

“That will obviously depend how many of the current players wish to stay involved in the club.

“I would like to work with as many of them as possible but I also have plenty of new players keen to come and have a look so that we have both eventualities covered.

“I am also talking to various people to join the management team and will have two people in place by the start of pre-season training.”

Taunton begin pre-season training on Tuesday, July 3 before the Evo-Stik League season kicks off on August 18.

Several friendlies have been arranged including a home game against Welsh League side Dinas Powys on August 4.

Robinson added: “We still have a couple more friendlies to fix up before our full pre-season schedule of matches is announced.”
