IT proved to be a step too far for the Somerset Vikings against a well-drilled, young and fast squad from Surrey enjoying their second season in the competition.

The visitors found their feet and began to open up the gaps in the home defence with three tries scored by Tom Pryor and Jamie Williams two of which were converted by Rick Mee.

Eventually, a thrust down the left wing saw Josh Bray cross in the corner to give some respectability to the scoreline.

Things didn’t get any better for the Vikings until Bray scored his second try thanks to a good combination by John Ferguson and Dan Hinton to provide Bray with a try out wide.

The team face Gloucester in the league next Saturday at Bridgwater.
