Somerset Shrubbery cricket league round-up
FOUR games into the season and Wedmore are still searching for their first Division Two win in the Somerset Shrubbery cricket league following a seven-wicket defeat at home to North Perrott.
Wedmore posted 165 mainly thanks to a hefty third wicket partnership between C Mogg (41) and M Boley (56).
But their bowlers were unable to make early inroads as North Perrott chased down the total in the 39th over.
In Division Five, East Huntspill fell to a four-wicket win against Broadway and Horton.
Early wickets put East Huntspill on the back foot but determined knocks from I Cooke (36), P Bagg (33) and K Stamp (27) helped claw the team to a respectable 177.
In reply, S Dare took two early wickets but a century partnership dashed any hopes as Broadway ran out winners.
Mark also fell to defeat in a tight match against Cranmore. Mark hit 226-7 with a classy 70 from N Ollerenshaw being the mainstay of the innings.
Three wickets for D Worthington helped to peg Cranmore back but 68 from K Thick dented their chances of winning.
Burnham 2nds crumbled to 114 all out as they chased down Chilton Polden's 215-4 in their Division 8S match.
Caine Harding (3-20) was the pick of the Burnham bowlers as they battled against a good Chilton batting line-up but they could not impress with the bat as R Wheatley (23) and Phil White (20) were the only real contributors.
In Division 8NE Wedmore 2nds fell to a 83 run defeat over Sparkford. L Patch was the pick of the bowlers to claim 3-62 as Sparkford hit 230-5 and P Patch hit 60 for Wedmore in reply but they fell to 147 all out.
Mark 2nds' match at Cranmore 2nds was cancelled.
In Division 9NW, East Huntspill 2nds claimed bragging rights over neighbours Huntspill and District 2nds.
East Huntspill posted a challenging 176 despite excellent bowling from T Garner (3-36) but in reply M Crook (4-44) demolished the line-up to dismiss Huntspill for 137.
Only J Smith put up some resistance as he scored a gritty 86.
Wedmore A were routed for 39 against Chilton Polden 2nds in reply to Chilton total of 256-9.
