Geoff Hurst at Burnham juniors presentation night
8:10am Friday 25th May 2012 in Sport
BURNHAM United Junior Club members had a surprise in store at their presentation night in Farmers Tavern at Brean.
All the trophies and medals were presented by World Cup soccer legend Sir Geoff Hurst with several autographed memoirs sold at auction, which helped to raise almost £300 for the club.
Hurst, 70, played 49 matches for England, scoring 24 goals. But he is remembered as the only player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup Final, a feat he achieved in 1966 to help England to a 4-2 win over Germany.
In all, he scored more than 200 goals as a professional footballer spending the majority of his career at West Ham United and Stoke City.
