SECOND division Staplegrove booked a place in the semi-finals of the Somerset County Womens League Cup with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over first division Bishops Lydeard on Sunday.

With Grove giving them plenty of respect, Lydeard bossed the opening encounters and took the lead.

As Grove’s confidence grew so did the number of their opportunities and Kiri Purssey latched on to a great pass from Hannah Forse to get themselves back on level terms by the interval.

Mid-way through the second half Forse hit a great lob on the turn to beat the keeper.

Grove expected an onslaught from Lydeard but it never came as the Grove midfielders and strikers managed to keep the ball in the Lydeard half to relieve the defence of too much pressure.

And Purssey wrapped up the tie with her second goal to earn a tie against first division Wincanton at home on April 1.
