ANDY Brice and Richard Colman became the first pair to win through to the quarter-finals of the men's Winter Foursomes at Tiverton.

Brice and Colman knocked out Martin Taggart and Mike Chorley 3 and 2 in the second round.

They will now meet either Martin Selby and Neil Carthew or Dominic Bristow and Neil Megarry in the last eight.

The four first-round matches not played on Saturday, January 21 have now been completed.

Mark Dakin and Chem Austin beat David Wright and Noel Thomas, Darren Lowman and Stephen Jack took out Peter Boax and Dean Farmer, Selby and Carthew overcame Eric Cole and Steve Hosford while Brice and Colman accounted for Stephen Paul and Bill Tobin.

In one match not reported last week, Nick Lear and Steve Lucas put out Carl Skinner and Dan Smith.

Second round: Top half - Rob Hagley and Peter Pickard v Mark Woodman and Tim Durrant; Mark Dakin and Chem Austin v Tony Allsopp and James Lambden; Peter Anthony and Gary Snowdon v Nick Lear and Steve Lucas; Kim Garnsworthy and Pete Guest v Gary Tucker and Mark Randell.

Bottom half - Rhys Cruse and Ricky Cruse v Ian Gunn and Adrian Tyrrell; Andy Bolt and Derek Cruwys v Darren Lowman and Stephen Jack; Martin Selby and Neil Carthew v Dominic Bristow and Neil Megarry; Andy Brice and Richard Colman beat Martin Taggart and Mike Chorley.

Simon Budden, Lloyd Sampson, Alby Cruse and Simon Mosley posted 87 stableford points to win the four-man team event on Saturday.

Roy Ireland, John Webber-Rookes, Dave Buxton and Russell Jarman were second on 86, beating Heath Ellis, Mark Sangster, Andy Bolt and Paul Mitchell on a countback.
