Taunton Vale men’s seconds beat Cheltenham A 3-2 in Premier division 3 of the Davis Wood hockey league.

Vale had the better of the first half following two goals by Josh Hancock – the first a deflection at the far post on a penalty corner and the second in open play drilling the ball to the bottom right corner past the keeper.

The visitors pulled one back only for the two goal advantage to be restored by man-of-match Craig Buchanan at a penalty corner.

The second half saw scrappy play from both teams and Cheltenham reduced the deficit with five minutes to go when they scored from a penalty corner themselves.

However Vale hung on to the victory following a good late save by keeper Robin Hynd and move into third place.

Vale men’s 1sts beat Exeter University B 4-1 in Premier Division 1 to maintain their comfortable mid-table position.

VALE men’s 3rds had the result of the day, winning 2-0 at Torbay A. The first goal was a converted short corner scored by Mike Cleverly, the second a reverse shot from top of the D from Harry Riste. The result means Vale leap-frog Torbay and take over in top spot in division South East 1.

VALE men’s 4ths drew 1-1 at home to ISCA B, the goal coming from Dave Cole.

VALE men’s 5ths had a great 3-1 victory away to Yeovil and Sherborne C 3-1. Goals came from Dan Low, Rob Setchell and James Dakin.

n Vale Ladies 1sts beat Swindon 4-0 in their first away game since Christmas.

They started brightly with Anna Miller opening the scoring early in the first half soon followed by a goal from Hannah Hughes. Nic Westworth added a third to make the half time score 3-0.

Vale’s final goal was a reverse stick effort by by Sarah James.

Vale 4ths lost 2-1 to Taw Valley, Helen Donavon scoring their only goal. Bex MacDonagh was awarded player of the match.

Vale 5ths began their 1-0 defeat of ECVH 2nds full of confidence and were soon passing the ball well and securing most of the possession.

They made a series of penetrating attacks which should have culminated in several goals, however the ECVH keeper was outstanding.

Player of the match Lucy Cartwright finally managed to get a shot past her and Vale heaved a sigh of relief.

n Taunton CS Ladies beat Cheddar 2nds 5-0 in Sedgmoor 2.

Quality team play and passing skills kept the ball in Cheddar's half for the majority of the game while Taunton's slick defence saw off any attempts at a break from the home team.

Rachel Pearson scored the only goal of the first half and there was still work to do in after the break when and the team linked up well for Jess Davies to nail the game with four goals.

Things didn’t go so well for the Civil Service mens teams as their 1sts were beaten 4-1 away to Yeovil & Sherborne 2nds in the Davis Wood league South-East 1 divison while in South-East 2 the 2nds lost 3-1 to Ashmoor 2nds.
