THE third annual Slay the Dragon event around Hinton St George proved a great success last weekend.

More than 40 participants were involved in the main 10k run, with another 13 attempting the shorter 4k Dragon’s Tail distance on Sunday, February 13.

Ed Stahl of Crewkerne Running Club won the main race, finishing the distance in 41 minutes and one second.

Richard Clifton of Chard Road Runners was second in a time of 42 minutes and 54 seconds, while third was Mike Pearce of Crewkerne Running Club in 44 minutes and 56 seconds.

Winning the women’s event was Helen Davey of Honiton Running Club, finishing in 52 minutes and seven seconds. Rachel Hilton of Yeovil was next – in 52 minutes and 56 seconds – and Linda Still of Crewkerne Running club was third in 56 minutes and 13 seconds.

Top of the leaderboard in the Dragon’s Tail was Karl Still of Perrott Hill School, completing the course in 13 minutes and 48 seconds, while first placed girl was 11-year-old Harriet Batth of Chillington, finishing in 21 minutes and three seconds.

A number of children also participated in a fun run around the village, with first place taken by Rueben Morris who finished in six minutes and 37 seconds.

The first girl to complete the course was nine-year-old Katherine Clifton-Day, who ran the course in six minutes and 48 seconds.

Joint winners in the under nines category were Chandler Hallet and Alec Hayton, while Sasha Davey came top in the under nines girls category.

For the first year a schools team cup was presented and home team Hinton St George won out, with the trophy collected by Finn Treacher, the first under nine Hinton St George boy to finish.
