GREAT Britain orienteering squad member Matthew Crane brought a touch of international class to the Quantock Orienteers’ first major event of the year at Triscombe on Sunday. He led the 8.1 km (320m climb) by ten minutes, finishing well ahead of the field in 53.22. The best local orienteer on the course was the Club Captain, Richard Sansbury in 1.23.58. In the 6.3 km course (210m climb) the three leaders were from the Bristol Club but local runners Andy Rimes and Richie Hill came in either side of an hour. QO members won the 3.8 km (100m climb) course through Mike Crockett in 45.19 and the 3.5 km (110m climb) course through Adrian Edwards in 37.27.
The next event is a double header at Lydeard Hill on Saturday, January 22. The Junior Orienteering Group will meet at 2pm and the ‘after-dark’ event will start at 6pm. For further details call Judy Craddock on 01823-323850 or visit www.quantockorienteers.co.uk.
