Tribute Somerset Premier: Wells 36, Taunton United 0

TAUNTON United travelled to Wells on Saturday and came away on the wrong end of a 36-0 drubbing.

The team was much changed from the last two weeks and it was further weakend when fly half Paddy Dean dislocated his shoulder after ten minutes.

Wells were very organised and dominated the first half with clever kicks into the sloping corner and powerful runs into midfield. This opened up space and the tries soon followed.

Taunton’s scrum was solid and their lineout worked well but the United side weren’t able to break down Wells’ strong defensive system. Taunton did have some spells of good play, mostly inspired by young scrum half Piers Jackson and his fellow colt Greg Moody, who usually plays as a flanker but had a stormer on the wing.

Towards the end of the second half Taunton did exert real pressure on the Wells try line but were unable to cross for a consolation score. Taunton will be looking to get back on track this week when they host Avon.
