ENMORE Park, now under Martyn Clapp’s captaincy, gained a creditable draw in the first friendly of 2010 at Minehead.

Enmore lost four and halved two of the first seven matches, but responded with four wins in the last five matches.

In the first two matches, Clapp and vice-captain, Chris Bishop, lost 5/4 and past captain Nigel Wixon and Nigel Musgrave-Brown lost 4/3.

However, wins by Paddy Maclennan and Ian Lane 3/2, Martin Collard and Andy Atkinson 3/2, Bob and Doug Read 2/1, and Matt Lazenby and Chris Goodison 2/1, left the final pairing of Keith Wilson and Jez Wallace needing a win to salvage the match, which they did, one up on the final hole.

Enmore are through to the second round of the Seniors Somerset Bowl after beating Tickenham 5-0 at Wedmore. They will now play Taunton Vale at Weston.

In the Mens Somerset bowl, a team lead by Paul Chilcott lost 3-2 to Cannington at Minehead.

Eileen Binding won the Ladies Midweek Medal and Golf Foundation with a net 72 on a countback over Jenny Hawkins, Isobel Matheson and Ann Whyte.
