Somerset Senior Cup quarter-finals: Watchet Town 0, Saltford 1.
WATCHET Town bowed out of the county cup after suffering a shock defeat at home to lower-division Saltford.
The Red and Blacks enjoyed bags of possession but failed to make it count against the visitors, who are mid-table in Division One.
It was the first time Watchet have failed to score at home this season and their first defeat at the Rec.
The hosts dominated the first half but, apart from Steve Perkins’ low shot which was well saved, they created little.
And it was Saltford who went in front from their first serious chance ten minutes into the second period, A ball into the box caused hesitency in Watchet’s defence and the ball was nodded over keeper Adam Bishop.
Watchet had their chances to force extra-time and Aaron Deeks was sent clear on goal twice but put both efforts wide.
There was also controversy late on when the ref pulled back play to send a Saltford player off following a scuffle, even though Deeks would have been through on goal.
Watchet return to league action on Saturday when they travel to face Nailsea United.
