Sunday League: Ash and Tone Youth book semi-final places


ASH Rangers and Tone Youth have booked their places in the semi-finals of the Taunton and District Sunday League’s Keyline Cup.

Tone Youth secured their passage with a 2-2 draw at fellow top flight side Spartans in their final Group C game. Spartans led twice but Tone Youth hit back with goals by Pearce McDonough, his first for Tone, and Kyle Sear. Also in Group C, Westgate beat Black Horse 1-0, Aaron Coles getting for, who Westgate finished second.

Ash Rangers needed to defeat higher-division Shepherd Wednesday to top the Group A, and did exactly that, scoring twice in the last five minutes to win 3-2. Tom Wadham, Joe Wilkinson and Aaron Sellick got their goals, while Lee Hammond and Matt Melhuish netted for Wednesday.

Also in Group A Bathpool beat Holway 9-4 with goals from Jay Cross (3), James Weaver (2), Jordan Mein, James Coleman, Tim Butler and Gavin Follet. Holway had Senna Clapp (2), Kieran Howe and James Bush on the scoresheet.

In Group B, Creech are all but through to the last four, and can only be denied if they lose their last game by eight goals. They secured an excellent 3-0 win at Division One side North Curry at the weekend, Mike Burley, Kieran Wyatt and Ryan Holloway scoring their goals.

Staplegrove beat Bagborough 3-2 with efforts from Eubio Do Rosario, Dan Sizer and Jack Bowen-Porter, while Mark Beckhurst and Simon Dennehy scored for Bagborough.

Westford’s massive goal difference means they should certainly get through from group Group D. They have a 16-goal lead over PQR who have one game against Spaxton left.

Westford’s latest win was 8-0 at home to Old Inn. Lee Hellier (4), Craig Plumridge, Andy Middle, Justin Dawe and Anthony Date were the scorers.

In Group A of the Mike Whitehead Cup, Barleycelona Blues made it two wins from two as they beat Flying Fins 5-2. The Grove made it three from three with a 4-3 victory over Cotford, Lee Groves (3) and a great strike from Gerry Thomas on the scoresheet.

The Grove travel to Barleycelona this weekend for a crucial game.

In the Mike Stewart Group A, The Eagle stayed on course for a semi-final spot as they won 4-0 at Carhampton, Albert Hughes (2), Martyn Hawkins and an own goal completing the tally. Harlem Athletic won 5-2 at Dunster.

There were also a handful of league games taking place. In Division Two, Spaxton and Watchet Blue Waves drew 2-2 and in the third Top Guns beat Ash Rangers Reserves 4-1 with strikes from Simon Livy (3) and Adam Reed. Claude Bordier hit Ash’s consolation.

In another high-scoring day in Division Four, Piston Broke won 8-6 against York House, thanks to goals from Tony Cross (3), Jordan Moore (2), Kevin Hart, Chris Ramsey and Jason Kibble.

Churchinford beat TY Predators 6-4. George Banfield (2), Brook McAllister, Matt Cottey, Josh Essex, Joe Crean and an own goal were on the scoresheet for Churchinford, Mark Smith, Tom Swateridge, Craig Burnett and Matt Holberry replying.
