TAUNTON Deane men seucred a thrilling one-shot win against Bridport in the Over-60s double rink comeptition.
The home team of W. Hooper, R. Dezille, T. Day and D. Hynard won their match 21-15. Deane’s away side started badly after five ends were 12-0 down. However, they fought back and only lost 22-17, to give Deane an overall 38-37 victory.
The away team was D. Corkill, T. Wiscombe, C. Greenslade and M.Beale.
Deane Ladies A defeated local rovals Taunton in the first leg of the Mason’s Over-60s Trophy.
The match was played on two rinks of fours and both games were hard-fought up to the final ends but Deane eventually took victory.
Deane: J. Dezille, J. Quick, A. Beale, J. Hocking (skip), E. Phippen, C. Day, S. Cridland, S. Evans (skip), Betty King.
Deane ladies competed for the Betty King Memorial Cup invitation triples competition on Sunday.
Teams from Donyatt, Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Ilminster and Taunton Deane enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch followed by three games of eight ends, scoring two points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss.
Deane’s team of M. Sutton, J. Dezille and J. Hocking gained six points from three outright wins to claim overall victory. C. Parson’s Donyatt team edged ahead of ahead of R. Perry’s BCL for runners-up.
MINEHEAD ladies played two teams in the over-60s Mason Trophy. The A team beat Taunton at home by 45 shots to 27 and the B team lost away to Ilminster by 25 shots to 50.
Scores: A team – M. Parsons, J. Westcott, B. Parker, W. Manns 26-9; L. Ackland, M. Hobbs, V. Welch, M. Pipkin won 19-18. B team – M. Lewis, D. Penfold, M. Lowman, J. Murrell 15-18; A. Harris, L.Scott, M. Carlin, M. Salisbury 10-32 In a mixed match away to Ilminster last Sunday Minehead came away with a resounding 71-38 win.
