TAUNTON CS Radiac and Outcasts continued their fine run of form by taking 25 points from their rain-affected draw at home to Temple Cloud in Division One of the Best Western Shrubbery Hotel Somerset League on Saturday.
It means Outcasts move to within 15 points of leaders Ilton, who picked up 18 points from their game at third-placed Westland Sports, who took 23.
After being asked to bat, Outcasts looked in some difficulty at 45-3 but were rscued by a brilliant partnership of 140 from in-form batsmen Dan Tottle (86 not out) and Phil Stokes (87).
They helped the side reach 236-5 before declaring due to the impending rain.
Lewis Knight bagged two wickets as the hosts quickly reduced Cloud to 10-3, but rain prevented any further play The rain had the final say in Wellington’s Somerset League Division One match with Staplegrove.
Wellington had restricted their relegation rivals to 141-2 before the heavens opened in the 36th over.
Staplegrove took 19 points to Wellington's 14 and closed the gap between the two sides to nine points in Wellington's favour.
In what play was possible Wellington put Staplegrove into bat and saw D. Penny cut loose with a fierce knock of 77 as he accounted for well over half of his side’s runs.
Wellington bowled steadily as Rowan Varkevisser and Paul Short collected a wicket apiece and Simon Rudd, Thom Trott and Max Capaldi backed them up well, but the rain was always going to have the final say and around 4pm the umpires took the players off and they did not return.
Division Two front-runners Ashbrittle had reached 74-2 against Wedmore before their game was abandoned.
Relegation-threatened Fitzhead, bowled out for just 55, crashed to a ten-wicket defeat against Watchet.
Curry Rivel made 208-3 in their Division Three game with Huntspill before it was abandoned.
D. Higginson had reached 90 not out.
Stogumber pulled a further ten points clear at the top of Somerset League Division Three, despite miserable weather conditions on Saturday.
Having been invited to bat by second-placed Horrington openers Stuart Thorne and James Weetch set about the bowling in spectacular style in a ruthless chase for bonus points before the inevitable deluge.
The 100 came up in the 13th over, by which time heavy drizzle was sweeping across the ground with Weetch ,in particular ,finding blistering form.
At 153, after 18 overs, play was suspended for 75 minutes, but a lull in the monsoon allowed six more overs and a phenomenal total of 200-0 from 24 overs and maximum batting points.
Weetch was marooned on 121 having hit 14 fours and six sixes and Thorne was stranded on an unbeaten 70.
North Curry’s game with Long Sutton was also abandoned.
J. Briggers claimed 6-50 for Bagborough in their abandoned Division Four game with Barton St David.
Bagborough reached 20-0 in reply to Barton’s 183 all out.
Taunton St Andrews A made 235-6 in their innings during their game with Brent Knoll which was also brought to a halt by the weather.
Sampford Arundel had made 72-1 against Sparkford before their Division Five game fell victim to the rain.
M. Jones hit 101no and S. Dalling 56 for Taunton A in their abandoned game with Broadway and Horton.
Taunton Deane Cavaliers lost by five wickets to Kilve having been dismissed for 114.
n WELLINGTON’s 2nd X1 made 162-4 in their match with their Staplegrove counterparts before the rain intervened and brought proceedings to a wet halt.
Trevor Brooks and Liam Kubicki added 55 first wicket runs for Wellington at a rate of four an over.
Brooks made 82no as he batted for the whole of the 37.3 overs that were possible.
Richard Short with 52 added 90 for the second wicket.
Bishops Lydeard’s Division One title bid in the Somerset 2nd X1 League was also thwarted by the weather.
Their match away at Glastonbury’s 3rd X1 on Saturday was cancelled because of the rain.
