MEMBERS of Taunton Deane Blades have finished an impressive season with strong finishes at the annual England Youth Championships.
In the U-11 girls, Layla Wyatt beat Caitlin Maxwell in the elimination stage to make an excellent third, losing out narrowly to the eventual winner Rebecca Wignall in the semi-finals.
This result shows her progress over the season, the result of dedicated training and long hours of practice, and is well deserved.
In the U-15 boys Zach Slingsby-Smith showed great determination and stamina through the day to finish in tenth out of a large field of 28 fencers. He continues to improve and gain in both experience and confidence with each event entered.
With a summer of training ahead of them, Taunton's chances look good for the coming season.
With a new beginners course starting in September the club looks to go from strength to strength. Anyone wishing to try fencing should go to www.tauntondeaneblades.com for more information.
