Two-shot cut for Mardon after another victory

THE morning medal on Brean's Captains' Day saw some excellent scores, especially in the second division, where John Mardon followed up his success of the previous week by handing in the best score of the men's competition.

His nett 65 saw his handicap reduced by another shot to 13. This score also took the first prize in the Greg Norman Medal which ran in conjunction with Captain's Day. He will now wait to see if it is good enough to qualify for the next stage. Pat Mullholland was second.

Division One honours went to club champion Steve Bateman whose gross 73 was the lowest of the day, while his nett score of 68 edged out Steve Mason on countback.

Division Three saw another form player take top spot. Nigel Ellis's nett 71 gave him the first prize, edging Tony Slade into second spot. The ladies' event was won by Jenny Dodd with a nett 71.

For the afternoon cross-country scramble, each player was restricted to just two clubs and a putter. Some tricky holes were laid out and the winning team comprised Tommy Davies, Jack Niblett and Tony Richards with nett 24.1 against a par of 30. A sizeable amount was raised for the Captains' Charity.

On Sunday, best score in the Super Series was posted by Phil Aspinall, whose 44 points won Division Two by eight, earning him a two-shot reduction in handicap.

In Division One, Paul Haddon's 41 was four clear. Sunday also saw the Ladies compete for the Lady Secretary Shanker, won by Gail Mason ahead of Amanda Du-Rose.
