Golfer Jerry is Vale club champion

JERRY Maxwell is the new club champion at Taunton Vale after winning the 36-hole title over two days at the weekend.

Maxwell recorded a gross 159 to finish two better than runner-up Paul Chesney.

Two players scored 162 but after a countback Daniel Keitch was third ahead of Alan King.

The best first-round score in the gross competition was 80 by Kevin Lewis while the pick of the second day was AJ Parker with his impressive 76.

The best nett score for the two rounds was Syd Mather's 144, which was three better than second-placed Josh Martin.

Rhys Morgan was third on 148 and Marc Mein fourth with 149.

Jordan Mein returned the best first-round score of 71 while on the second day Ray Martin went one better with a 70.

n The top division in the first Captain's Bowl competition was won by Pete Holley with 69, with Steve Murr second on 70 and Rob Loder third with 71.

Marc Mein hit 67 to win Division Two. He was one ahead of second-placed Terry Hodge, with John Beer third on 71.

In Division Three Chris Hawkins triumphed with 69. He finished three better than Mike Berryman, with Nick Laing in third spot with 73.

n The Tom Harris Wossname' Trophy, which is played between the men's veterans and the senior ladies over the nine-hole course, resulted in a narrow win for the ladies.

Following the round everyone sat down for lunch in the clubhouse and Joy Jordan received the Tom Harris Trophy on behalf of the winners.

Division Two - 1 Alan Brown (41); 2 Jack Sellick (38); 3 Ian Dannan (38).
