SWANMEAD Community School youngsters have had a faultless campaign to their cricket season dominating teams across Somerset.

Both the Year 5 and Year 6 cricket teams have won all games of their district season cleaning up at tournaments with a full range of trophies and accolades won.

The Year 6 team have gone a stage further.

In addition to winning all their district games, they also dominated at the Area Cricket Finals held just before half-term.

This perfect winning streak means they now progress to the County Finals at Wembdon CC in a few weeks.

Swanmead's Year 5 and Year 6 gymnasts team took part in the County Gymnastics Finals at Yeovil College just before half-term.

Everyone performed brilliantly to secure first place by 0.1 points!

This means the KS2 team retained their title.

The result comes alongside Greenfylde winning the county title for KS1 a few weeks earlier.

THIRTY pupils from Years 5 and 6 at Swanmead journeyed to London last week and to the home of cricket, Lord's.

It was an early start for the youngsters (6am from Ilminster) who made it to St John’s Wood in plenty of time ready for the ‘Chance to Shine’ event.

Swanmead children were invited following their win at the Somerset Primary Schools World Cup Presentation event.

The day included a tour of the changing rooms and media centre, some mini cricket activities and even making the cricket teas.

Swanmead’s children also had the chance to spend some time with former England cricketer Matt Prior who was on hand for selfies and signing autographs.

Year 7 pupil Lachlan Rice had a superb all-round performance in his most recent game for Somerset against Gloucestershire last week.

The budding star selected once again this year for the County Under-12s took 4-12 and hit 21 as the county won.
