VOLUNTEERS have played a vital part in engaging new playing members at Enmore Park Golf Club.

The recent success of the ‘Women into Golf’ events at the club has shown just how important these volunteers have been.

As a result of their volunteers, Enmore Park has achieved the following: A dedicated team to drive their Women into Golf initiative; a group of women to attend each coaching session to support the new players; and a dedicated group of buddies working with the new players on a one-to-one basis.

As part of their volunteer programme, Enmore Park invited England Golf to support them with a training session, led by Peter Forster.

Forster was excellent in providing volunteers with helpful information and affirmed their skills to carry out the ‘buddy’ role.

As a result of the training, each ‘buddy’ prepared their own pledge to sustain support to new players.

ENMORE Park Seniors welcomed the Mendip Seniors on a much colder May day than recently but overcame strong opposition to win by 6-2.

Pick of the wins was Tim Smith with Peter Robinson (4&3); other winning pairs were Jeff Saunders with Keith Calvert (3&2), captain Steve Lukins with Chris Willsteed (3&1), Doug Read with Chris Bishop (2&1), Mike Sullivan with Tony Hughes (1 up) and Mike Cavill with Chris Topps (3&2).

The seniors then travelled to Weston-super-Mare to play their seniors on the seaside links course and the home team justifiably came home winners, 5½-2½.

Enmore’s winning pairs were Ian Morrison and Doug Read with a fantastic 6&5 victory, while Mike Sullivan with Kelvin Tuthill won by 3&2.
