TAUNTON Running Club’s All Blacks were at the opposite ends of the nation on Sunday, running in marathons in Sidmouth and Edinburgh.

Firstly, Maxine Nixon ran the tough ‘Women Can’ trail marathon in Sidmouth, where the weather was near perfect for marathon running.

Following the contours of the Jurassic Coast, this course is not for the faint-hearted, and super-fit Nixon managed her first marathon in just under six hours.

Up in Scotland, a team of All Blacks competed in the Edinburgh Half and Marathon, in totally different weather conditions.

Heavy wind and rain met Anna White, Ruth Preece, Jason Routley, Sharon Passmore and Jo Lowe as they lined up with a mass of half-marathoners for the 13.1-mile course.

The weather subsided for the start of the marathon as All Black first-timers Sharon and Matt Pearse, Jo Ellis and Jane Burchall lined up with seasoned marathoners Laura Davenport, Kerrie Bawden and Jon Passmore.

The group headed out through Edinburgh city centre to the coast and met a fierce headwind for the final seven miles as they battled to the finish at Musselburgh.

Edinburgh results: Marathon - Jon Passmore 3:49, Laura Davenport 4:23, Kerrie Bawden 4:35, Jo Ellis 4:35, Matt Pearse 4:45, Sharon Pearse 4:45, Jane Burchall 5:01. Half Marathon - Anna White 1:55, Jo Lowe 2:08, Sharon Passmore 2:10, Ruth Preece 2:32, Jason Routley 2:32.
