Trull 1st XI 264-8 beat Burnham 1st XI 209-9 by 55 runs

BURNHAM travelled to high-scoring Trull on Saturday and finished 55 runs short.

Electing to bat, Trull’s much vaunted top order did the business as Josh Parker (37), Andy Clark (49) and Dan Gould (64) made solid contributions.

Burnham’s bowlers stuck to the task, however, with Connor Lefrere taking three and Nathan Giblett two wickets, while Peter Harris nine overs cost just 30 to keep a lid on the scoring.

Despite their efforts, Trull reached a challenging 264-8 on a good track.

Burnham’s reply did not start well, as opener Brad House was run out without scoring.

Skipper Rob Driver and Dave Worthington repaired the damage but fell behind the run rate against the frugal bowling of Mark Thomas and Craig Lawton.

Worthington fell for a patient 21 and Driver was joined by Lee Coles (24) who carried on the good work.

Coles, Phil White (15) and Peter Harris (19) all came and went in the search for quick runs and, when Driver was bowled by Lawton for a fine 76, the game was virtually up.

Nathan Giblett added a late 13 to take Burnham to maximum batting points but they were still well short of their target when the overs ran out at 209-9.

Brian Stone did much to halt Burnham’s progress, taking 2-19 off 9 and Josh Parker claimed two late wickets in his two-over spell.

All in all, Burnham stood up well to a side among the favourites for their third promotion in succession and left with a useful 18 points.

On Saturday, they will hope to pick up more when they entertain Long Sutton.
