LYMPSHAM’S Luffs came to the fore on Saturday as dad Dave and son Jack combined to lead them to victory at Wembdon 2nds.

Having been asked to bowl first, Samuel McCrea and Tom Gooding made a disciplined start.

Lympsham’s bowlers were consistent and wickets fell regularly, with McCrea taking 3-44, Neil Chadwick 2-19 from nine and one apiece for Jack Neville and Sam Jennings.

Wembdon finished their 45 overs on 200-8 and Lympsham’s reply got off to the worst possible start as Mike Hosey mistimed a pull shot and was caught in the first over.

McCrea and Chadwick steadied the ship before the former was bowled for 17, and Chadwick went on to make 31 before he was trapped in front.

Lympsham needed a partnership and the Luffs provided it, accumulating runs at a good pace and taking the visitors towards their target.

Jack Luff batted with great responsibility and finished unbeaten on a match-winning 88, with 11 fours and a six, while Dave Luff walked off with 39 not out to his name as Lympsham got home with an over to spare.

Huntspill & District 222 beat Ilton 104 by 118 runs

HUNTSPILL made it two wins from two as they recorded a comprehensive victory over Ilton on Saturday.

Asked to bat first, a new opening pair of Tom Garner and Brandon Durkin took to the middle adding 30 in just three overs before Durkin was bowled by a low full toss.

Ali Hay joined Garner and lived dangerously early on but settled down rotating the strike well whilst punishing anything loose.

Garner was anchoring the innings nicely as Hay began to up the up the tempo before, on 48, left the ball on middle stump and was bowled.

With the score on 128-3 after 30 overs, Garner reached a well-deserved half-century and, with Osmant, looked to increase the run rate and took the score to 172 before falling for 63.

Jones couldn’t repeat his hitting display of the week before but Osmant put his foot down with a huge straight six, skipper Matt Counsell 15 off seven balls to take the score past 200 but fell with score on 216 and was quickly followed by Osmant for a well made 41.

Matravers blew away the tail to bowl out Huntspill for 222 as he finished with 5-43 with the visitors losing five wickets for six.

Ilton got off to a flying start with Gower hitting a number of lusty blows to put Huntspill on the back foot.

Dave Counsell snared Haste and CJ Organ trapped Welch lbw to check the progress of Ilton but Gower continued to play with freedom.

Randall was introduced and, in partnership with Organ (2-21), built pressure which forced a big shot from Gower (45) which was expertly held in the deep by Garner.

Matt Counsell picked up from where Organ left off, building more pressure with Randall (2-22) really swinging the game Huntspill’s way removing the dangerous Venn and Price in consecutive overs.

This signalled the end for Ilton with Counsell (4-21) running through the middle and lower order to leave the home side 97-9. Huntspill missed several chances to end the game which came when Hay picked up the final wicket, well caught by Jones.

Next weekend, Huntspill take on Castle Cary on Sunday.

WEDMORE’S bowlers starred as they shot out Taunton Deane 3rds for 85 to win their Division 5 match by 47 runs at Pitminster on Saturday.

Wedmore won the toss and opted to bat first, only to lose their top three cheaply.

Paul Whittaker and Martyn Boley recovered the situation and were two of only three players to reach double figures for the visitors.

Boley was dismissed for 27 but Whittaker continued to make his half-century before falling shortly afterwards for 53.

It proved to be a vital knock, as Wedmore’s lower order offered little resistance and the innings was wrapped up on 132 in the 36th over.

Bob Burgess ensured Wedmore made a super start to defending their total, removing each of the Deane top three for single figure scores on his way to figures of 3-15 from nine overs.

Charles Axon (22) and Barry Jones (25) steadied the ship somewhat but, once they were dismissed, the writing was on the wall.

Ian Harris ran through the middle and lower order with 4-14 from 8.1 overs as Wedmore sealed a comfortable victory.

An accomplished batting performance from Mark helped them defeat Weston-super-Mare 5ths by 90 runs in Division 8N.

T. Moxey (70) and S. Tinklin (73) led the way, with good support coming from L. Cook (43) and T. Cattermole (35*) as Mark racked up 262-4 from their 40 overs.

The young Weston side battled hard in response to offer support to captain Michael Lee, who made an unbeaten 116 - reaching his century while his daughter, Olivia, was at the other end on her senior cricket debut.

Despite Lee’s efforts, Weston finished on 162-6 to hand Mark a comfortable victory.

The wickets were shared around, with Moxey adding 2-15 to his earlier runs.
