TAUNTON Town captain Matt Wright has extended his stay at the Viridor Stadium through to the end of the 2019/20 season.

Wright had been weighing up a return to playing in Sweden (where he played for Pitea IF in 2012), but has decided to remain with the Peacocks.

He signed for Taunton in the summer of 2016, from Truro City, and skippered the side to promotion from Southern League Division 1 West in 2018.

Wright remained as captain for the 2018/19 season, making 42 appearances (plus four as substitute) and scoring 14 goals as the Peacocks finished a point off Premier Division South champions Weymouth.

Wright commented on the club website: "I’m very happy to extend my stay for another season.

"Naturally, we’re all disappointed to come up short in the play-offs this year but nonetheless what a great year it has been for the club.

"Hopefully, we’ll improve on this next season in what will no doubt be another rollercoaster."
