Saturn 38, Wyndham 34

AN injury-hit Saturn started quickly and took a four-goal lead, but a few wayward passes allowed Wyndham to stay in touch.

In the second quarter, the defensive duo of Abbie Newton (GK) and Lisa Lukins (GD) took interceptions and rebounds and helped to drive the ball down the court to the shooters, giving Katy Cheese the opportunity to convert her shots, which enabled Saturn to take a slim lead at half time 22-18.

Quick passes by Julie McClean at centre into the shooters ensured that Saturn kept their lead although Wyndham kept the pressure on and made sure that Saturn didn’t have it easy.

The final quarter saw mistakes made by both teams due to the intensity of the game, but Wyndham could not break down Saturn defence which enabled Saturn to take the win.

Venus 30, Aldon 38

BETH Hayes took the first centre pass which Venus took straight to goal.

Unfortunately, as their confidence grew, the slippery court, had Venus pulled for a lot of footwork allowing Aldon to edge the lead ending Q1 at 5-9.

The second quarter brought about some changes moving player but Aldon still managed to edge one further ahead leaving Venus trailing by five at half time.

Quarter three brought about the highest scoring play from both sides with Venus sinking 10 goals and Aldon netting 13, increasing their lead yet still well within chasing distance.

The drying court allowed for better challenging by both teams and shooters Hazel Hucker (GS) and Izzy Keane (GA) showed much needed patience using supporting players on the edge of the circle to get themselves the opportunities they needed.

In true Venus style they continued to apply the pressure and both teams scored seven goals in the final quarter.

Ashlea Slater and Amy Millar jumped high and positioned themselves well for rebounds and won interceptions at crucial moments keeping spirits alive.

Sadly it wasn’t enough to quite get within five goals of the winners and Venus missed out on the extra point.

Sapphires 35, Tone 49

SAPPHIRES had a tough game against Taunton team Tone.

Despite the high levels of pressure from Sue (GK) and Laura (GD) and multiple interceptions it didn’t stop the strong opposition from taking an early lead.

Great patience and communication down in the attacking third from Mikki Hole (C) and Katie Hill (WA) taking the ball to shooters Justine and Michelle, who were able to continue to work hard against the tough opposition and score many goals.

Despite all the hard work and continuous effort from Sapphires, they were defeated.
