CHARD powerlifter Emily Greenway has claimed fourth place at the British Women’s Classic Powerlifting Championships, in Bournemouth.

Greenway, who also finished fourth in last year’s event with a 407.5kg total (160kg squat,72.5kg bench & 172.5kg deadlift), upped her total to 435kg (172.5kg squat, 80kg bench & 182.5kg deadlift) this year.

Greenway said: “The competition was tough, with another competitor also getting 435kg total, but as my body weight was lower I received the higher ranking.

“I achieved eight out of nine lifts; the only lift missing was my final squat, which was a British record attempt of 181kg and unfortunately was too heavy for that day!

“It has only been two years since I started competing and at my first competition I achieved a 355kg total, so the improvement on this is massive and has been helped by my coach Pierre Shillingford.”

Greenway’s next competition, the All Englands, is planned for May 26.

The powerlifter, who trains at Phoenix Fitness Chard, said: “Last year I came third so I am hoping to improve on this.”
