Middlezoy Rovers 3, Clutton 1

AFTER a February with very little football for Middlezoy, they finally got back into action on Saturday against Clutton.

Before their break Zoy had been on a good run but they were always going to be a little rusty in the early stages.

This showed as Zoy were second to everything early on and Clutton took the lead on 20 minutes when an onrushing midfielder slotted home across Greg Turner.

This sprung Zoy into life as they began to play with more pace and purpose while still failing to really test the Clutton keeper, so it stayed 1-0 until the break.

The first chance of the second half fell to Dan Luce, who saw his shot blocked after Adam Long’s cutback.

It wasn’t long before Zoy were on level terms as a brilliant cross from Liam Winter found Long, who converted on the rebound after his initial shot was saved.

With the wind behind them it was now all Zoy as Clutton never troubled Turner in goal during the second half.

On the hour, Luce had the chance to give his side the lead but his effort from Jed Williams’ pass went wide.

Zoy eventually got themselves in front as Long’s driven cross found Alex Male to poke home from two yards.

Williams was able to add some gloss to the scoreline late on as he jinked between two players and fired high into the net to secure the points for the home side.

Yatton & Cleeve 3, Middlezoy Res 4

MIDDLEZOY got off to a perfect start at Yatton as Simon Bone’s half-volley from 25 yards found the corner.

Craig Wright had a goal struck off from a dubious offside flag and Yatton went straight up the other end and equalised.

The home side made it 2-1 just before half-time as Zoy were rattled by a number of refereeing decisions.

Zoy came flying out after the break and Hall’s ball over the top found Wright, who calmly slotted the ball home.

Zoy then took the lead through the impressive Hall as Wright’s shot from the edge of the box was blocked into his path and he fired home.

The visitors added a fourth in the 80th minute after Wright thundered home a volley after exchanging passes with Sam Hallett.

Yatton did get a third consolation goal late on but Zoy held out for a deserved win to remain top of the table.
