CHARD get back to league action on Saturday when they take on Paignton in what will be a big game for both teams, each finding themselves at the wrong end of the Western Counties West table.

Paignton, although still at the foot of the table, have shown that they are a much improved side in recent weeks, with two consecutive wins.

Chard, currently in 11th place (fourth from bottom), have also got their act together in recent weeks and go into this match following a fine win against Kingsbridge, which left them seven points ahead of their Torbay opponents.

Chard beat Paignton at home earlier in the season but have yet to win away from Essex Close; they are, however, expecting to travel to Paignton with a full strength squad.

An enthralling game is on the cards and spectators travelling to the game, which has a 2.30pm kick-off, are reminded that the Paignton ground is right in the middle of town and only a few minutes from the railway and bus stations.

Chard’s 2nd XV are at home to Weston-super-Mare 4ths in Somerset 2 South and the 3rd XV are away in Glastonbury against Tor 2nd XV in Somerset 3 South, with both games kicking off at 2.30pm.

In Somerset 1, second-bottom Crewkerne travel to Bath Old Edwardians, who are one point and one place above them.

Chard Ladies are also back in action this coming Sunday, away to league leaders Topsham – the reverse fixture being a classic encounter which ended 36-36.
