Taunton Club League

THERE’S one more round of matches to go and two teams tied at the top - Wyvern Wanderers and Knights.

Third-placed 68 Sports will be hoping to win their last game and for both the top two to drop points to force a play-off.

This week saw Wanderers smash Cubs by 119 pins at the Trinity Club, while Knights lost by one away to the Ramblers.

Viv Bradner got the highest score in the game between Sports and Norton Nomads at the 68 Club, 61, but Viv Lewis’ 60 for Sports helped them win by 10.

A big 83 from Dave Jewell helped Nynehead to a fine away win against Bradford Bulls at the White Horse.

Bishop’s Hull B beat Trinity Blues by 13 while Scribblers lost by 41 at home to Lights.

Alan Steer’s 68 helped Shuttern B to a 42-pin win at RAFA Sprogs and Bishop’s Hull C had a 20-pin home win against Taverners.

WHITE Stags (Matt Dare 75) beat Thatchers Boys (Trevor Gibbs 64) by 20 pins in Division 1 to inflict their first home defeat of the season.

Blues & Blacks had Josh Salisbury top of the alley with 61 when they beat Black Nags (Richard House 58) by 35.

Mike’s Boys won on their new home alley at the Harvest Moon, North Newton, against Walt’s Boys by 21.

Brian Bishop was top of the alley with 65, while captain Andy Shave hit 64 for the away team.

In Division 2, Eli’s B (Stuart Dent 64) won by two at Wears yur Shirt (Dave Purchase 72).

Henley Gunners were back to winning ways at home to Crown, Fivehead.

Gunners’ Mark Hembrow hit the highest score so far this season at The London Inn, his 83 including four spares.

Clive McHardy was top for Fivehead with 58.

Finally, Old Pounders won their first league game this season, beating Boozers by 13.

Former captain Greg Perkins was top with 60 and Connor Perry knocked 59 for Boozers.

QC Guys (Stuart Norman 112) are now six points clear at the top of the Premier Division after a 59-pin home win against White Horse Stallions (Mick Hood 101).

Second-placed Allsorts (Mike Langdon 140) had a 76-pin home win over Haddon Hillbillies (Ian Rottenbury 145).

In Division A, leaders Williton Club (Chris Duck 93) picked up their 17th consecutive win in all competitions after defeating Murphy’s Boys (Dan Gilpin/Alf Goble 89) by 18, while in a low-scorer at Williton Social Club, Wranglers (Callum Tarr 98) narrowly defeated Hungerford Harriers (Kevin Hole 96) by three.

Rebels (Tom McNaughton 115) are now joint fourth after winning away at Muskateers (Steve Howard, Simon Manley Matt Phillips 103) by 27 and Castaways (Neil Lane 106), who lost at Ball Boys (Rich Parsons 110) by 24.

Wellington Ex-Services League

THE 2018/19 Payne Knockout Cup final will be contested by Scuppas and WRFC on Wednesday, February 13, following their semi-final wins last Wednesday.

Scuppas took on Reservists at the Victoria Arms and came away victorious, chasing down 369 to win and Francis Biffen hitting a match-winning 57.

At the RGI, WRFC saw John Lane hit 55 as they also won by chasing their opponents’ score, after All Stars had hit 360.

This season’s Captains Meeting takes place on Tuesday (February 5) at 7.30pm.

MOWERS are one point ahead in the Thursday Division after their home win at the Barley Mow last time out when they beat Ex-Servicemen by two pins as Darren Winter and Vince Milton each hit 56.

A. Coles replied with 51 for the Servicemen.

Scuppas are a point back in second place after their home win at the Cottage Inn over All Stars as Dave Squire hit 65 with Lee Eggar replying with 59 for the visitors.

King Pins stay third but lost ground after losing to Foresters at the White Horse Inn with M. Wyatt’s 58 been the best offering from the home side; Steve Mason, with 53, was the visitors’ best score.

WRFC lost out by six to United Services upstairs at the Victoria Arms, despite John Lane’s 51, as Geoff Smith, with 58, made it an away win.

It was a dynamic week in the Friday Division as two of the top three lost and there is just two points separating the top four teams as positional changes took place.

Bell Green stay top but their advantage has been trimmed to just a point after they lost to Cottage Pies at the Cottage Inn as Lee Ellis was the top man for the home team with 61 as Tim May replied with 54.

Holywell Lake are down to joint third place after a home loss downstairs at the Victoria Arms to Reservists as Adam Newberry’s 52 was overcome by Steve Tubb hitting 58 for the new second placed side.

Wardens are the other joint third placed team after their win upstairs at the Victoria Arms over Club Rockers as birthday boy Jon Reed hit 57; Rockers had Jake Smith hitting 51 as they lost out by just three pins.

OBA are off the bottom of the table courtesy of their win over Oaks at the Blue Ball Inn as Andy Kemp led the way with 52 after Steve Burge had hit 55 for the home side.

Queen’s Legs beat Relyon upstairs at the Tory Club with Dan Mason’s 60 been their best offering as the visitors replied with 47 from Jason Hayes and Andy Childs.
