Portishead Ladies 1, Ilminster Town 1

ILMINSTER Town Ladies called up a couple of the reserves for their first match in six weeks, away to Portishead Ladies on Sunday.

Amy Goss, Shakira Howard and Poppy Hookings came in, while Hannah Billing put in a great goalkeeping performance.

Ilminster came flying out the blocks and Maisie Parker shot straight at the keeper when well placed.

Graziely Esperanca and Colette Martin also went close, but it was Portishead who took the lead in the dying seconds of the first half.

Both teams missed chances but it wasn’t until the 85th minute when substitute Howard got in behind the Portishead defence.

Her headed effort was handled, and the resulting penalty was smacked in off the underside of the crossbar by 16-year-old Abbie Carslake.

Keeper Billing claimed the player of the match award, while Sarah Miller put in a captain's performance at centre-back.

Ilminster: Hannah Billing, Dana Andrews, Daisy Charles, Sarah Miller (c), Charlie Pettinger, Maisie Parker, Colette Martin, Lesley Spearing, Graziely Esperanca, Poppy Hookings, Abbie Carslake. Substitutes: Amy Goss, Shakira Howard.

On Sunday, eighth-placed Ilminster play host to Bishops Lydeard, who are third (ko 2pm at the Archie Gooch Pavilion).
