Somerset County League Division 1
Staplegrove 2, Burnham United 3
BURNHAM United kicked off 2019 with a crucial win at fellow strugglers Staplegrove on Saturday.
Curtis Bradshaw opened the scoring before Russell Holley’s brace secured an important three points.
Alex Pounde and Joe Wilkinson replied for the hosts but Burnham did enough to hold on, moving to within a point of Staplegrove in the process.
United are now three points clear of the bottom two, Wells City Reserves and Long Ashton - who United visit in another crunch game on Saturday.
Burnham United: Curtis Bradshaw, Charlie Harding, Russell Holley, Edward Lamb, Elliot Lamb, William Lamb, Jack Marsh, Jamie Merrick, Harry Penfold, Joe Selway, Warren Whitfield. Subs (used): Jack Cherry, Matthew Scott
Burnham United Reserves were frustrated by the weather as their scheduled Division 3 match at Somerton Town Reserves was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
United, in eighth, host second-placed Middlezoy Rovers Reserves on Saturday.
