BURNHAM United are now one of three teams on seven points at the bottom of Division 1 in the Somerset County League.

Their match at Winscombe was originally given the go-ahead on Saturday, only for the match referee to call it off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Long Ashton then beat Wells City Reserves 4-3 in a clash of the bottom two, leaving both teams level on points with Burnham – who do have a significantly better goal difference and games in hand.

Burnham United Reserves and United A also had their games – at home to Winscombe Reserves and Selkirk United, respectively – postponed.

And the same fate befell the Burnham teams scheduled to play on Sunday – United Ladies’ match at home to Ilminster Town Reserves and the Under-18s’ game at Minehead AFC both falling foul of the weather.

Weston-super-Mare & District League teams Wedmore and Wedmore Reserves were also left without fixtures on Saturday, but Huntspill Crowns did have a game.

And their 2-0 home victory over Weston Celtic propelled them up to second in Division 4, three points off leaders Weston Town.

Second-half strikes from Adam Lock and Brynn Pearce handed Crowns the three points.

In the Somerset Women’s League, Isle of Wedmore Ladies battered Cheddar 13-3 in Division 2.

Alice Haggan ended the day with six goals, Hannah Wyatt three, and both Bonnie Brown and Lydia Neal two.

ONLY two matches survived the rain in the Uxella Bridgwater & District Sunday League this weekend.

Nonetheless, Division 2 leaders North Petherton made light of the conditions as they hammered Huntspill Crowns BPH by an 11-2 margin.

Jack Winter and Scott Harman did most of the damage, scoring five and four goals, respectively, with Corey Warren adding another.

Edward Gay and Daniel Guyatt replied for Crowns.

Crowns’ first team were in Dave Hobbs Cup action, and drew 4-4 in a thrilling match at home to Highburn Athletic.

Wayne Hand, Curtis Bradshaw (2) and Mike Stevens netted for the hosts, who held their nerve to win 5-4 on penalties.

Crowns are set to play the winner of the Red Road Rangers v North Petherton quarter-final (to be played on January 6), in the last four of the competition.
