PAUL Bacon followed up his recent John Smith Trophy win by collecting the Lukie Cup at Brean Golf Club on Sunday.

He returned a very steady card of 43 points to win by two from Roger Vaughan and by three from Geoff Hill.

He also saw his ever-tumbling handicap reduced by another couple of strokes.

The trio were all the winners of their respective divisions as well, with Vaughan taking the top flight, Hill the middle bracket and Bacon securing Division 3.

Matt Shaw was runner-up to Vaughan with his 38-point return, while Graham Foy was only one point behind Hill in Division 2.

Bacon had the largest winning margin as he enjoyed a five-point cushion over John Ham, as the pork-related pair left the rest scratching around for the remaining places.

Millie Jones won the Ladies Lukie Salver which ran alongside the Men’s event.

A very healthy entry of ladies took part and Jones enjoyed a good day as she returned 36 points on the way to victory.

Captain-elect Lyn Bird was the runner-up after a back nine countback with competition debutant Tracy Spencer, the duo both scoring 33.

Steve Vowles was the first player to celebrate a competition win while enjoying a post-round pint in the new Country Club building.

The left-hander won the Winter League Stableford on Saturday, which was the opening day of the facility for Brean members.

He scored a very impressive 43 points, of which his front nine of 26 laid the foundation.

Vowles won by three from Phil Hodgson and Steve Bawden, with Hodgson being awarded second on countback.

Hodgson also secured the only two of the day when he chipped in at the seventh.
