Odd Down Reserves 0, Middlezoy Rovers 7

AFTER recent cup success, Middlezoy Rovers faced the long away trip to Odd Down, the division’s bottom side, on Saturday.

Zoy started brighter and looked dangerous with long balls in behind the full-backs early in the game.

It was on 12 minutes that they found the first breakthrough, after Greg Turner found Callum Laird out wide, Laird beating his man and whipping the ball in for an unmarked Dan Luce to slot home.

The lead was doubled three minutes later, when Johnny Higgins picked the ball up from 25 yards out.

His ferocious effort was parried out to Jed Williams, who whipped in a ball to find Andy Smith sliding in at the far post.

Zoy were lucky to escape as Odd Down hit back and the ball was cleared off the goal-line.

Middlezoy absorbed the pressure, though, and broke through again on 39 minutes when Higgins found Williams, who squared the ball for Luce to slot in.

Five minutes into the second half, great play from Williams allowed Charlie Lintell to swivel and finish in style into the far corner.

The fifth goal came on the hour, as the ball was won by Laird on the penalty spot and flicked on for Alex Clapp to react and smash home.

The sixth arrived when Matt Connick lashed a ball in, Ollie Ham in position to smash home on the volley.

The final goal came with 10 minutes to go after Connick’s cross was turned into his own net by an Odd Down defender.

This was a thoroughly deserved result for Zoy, who are playing well and getting the results.
